Saturday Night Jail Cell

My moms two rules for every fight I've ever gotten in have been: don’t ever do it at school and don’t get arrested. At least one of those rules was followed tonight. Chelsea had it coming to her anyways after all the things she was saying about me. My mom is still going to kill me though.

My uncle walks into the holding cell and looks at me. Then he starts laughing. He says, “Hey, at least it looks like you won, the other girl is in a lot worse shape than you.”
I start laughing. Of all the things he could say in this situation he chooses that. I begin to think of ways I can get out of this. I ask my uncle, “Is there anyway you can release me without my mom knowing right away?”

He replies, “The only way I can do that is if your dad comes to get you.” I consider this for a little bit. He had a track record growing up and maybe he would be more understanding of the situation. Maybe he would even be happy about it and be making jokes like my uncle. The only thing I know for sure right now is that my mom cannot find out.

My uncle takes me out of the cell away from all the drunk idiots and other people in my cell. He lets me sit in his office until I figure out what I want to do. “Wow it’s really nice that my office is high up over here,” was all I could think.

As we’re walking to his office we walk past the other cell where Chelsea is being held. She looked terrified and was covered in blood. That's when I looked down at my hands and saw my knuckles covered in blood also. For a moment I begin to feel bad about how things turned out. That was soon over and I was glad it was the feeling went away.

She saw me and just stared. One girl in the same cell as her looked at me and said, “Is that her?” Chelsea just sat there without saying a world staring at me the best she could out of her swollen eye.

My uncle pats me on the back and says, “Let’s keep moving.”

We walk down three very long hallways and then get in the elevator and take it to the top floor. Down another hallway we went and we were at his office. His office was bigger and messier than any office I have ever seen.. He sat down behind his desk and told me to sit in the giant comfy chairs on the other side. He got out a form that he said was a police report. He said, “I need you to be 100% honest with me right now. What actually happened tonight?”

I sat there for a moment trying to piece back together my night. I guess it took me a little longer than I realized because my uncles interrupted my train of thought and said, “I’m ready when you are.”

I told him everything that went on that night and the past couple weeks leading up to it.
When I got to how the fight started he asked me the most important question, “Who through the first punch?”

I sat there for a minute. I could not remember it to save my life. Finally I answered, “I honestly do not remember. Everything just happened so fast when I showed up.”

He looked a little set back. I knew without knowing who threw the first punch Chelsea and I both would be getting charged. I just hoped she didn't remember either.

My uncle received a phone call. When he got off the phone he said, “Well time to go downstairs to the front. Your mom's here.”

I thought to myself, “Here starts my real Saturday night jail cell.”

Thankful for....

I know for this blog we are supposed to pick one classmate to be thankful for. However, I don't think picking just one of them would be fair or is right since I'm thankful for more than one. The first person I'm thankful for is Cole. I didn't know him at the beginning of the year but now he is a pretty good friend of mine. Now he gets to put up with hearing all my comments during class and even listening to my stories. He also helps me out a lot during class. I'm also thankful for Matt because he also helps me out in class and entertains me with his random outbursts and just his personality. He makes class a little more enjoyable especially when he is helping me harass Cole. Another person I'm thankful for is Liam. We've been friends since freshman year so I was glad when I found out he was in my class. I'm not going to list why I'm thankful for him because he will just make fun of me for it later. Finally I'm thankful for Ciara and having her in class to help me go on rants about the southside with Mr. McCarthy.

"And then he is dead"

Throughout the play it seemed like Macbeth's actions were all going to work together and let him reach his ultimate goal. However it was all a waste of time and his life. If Macbeth and Lady Macbeth didn't go completely out of their way to kill every person who stood in their way of the crown they wouldn't have ended up dead. They could have gone on with their lives happy with the status they had and let the higher titles come naturally if they still believed what the witches said. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth do seem like very impatient people so maybe this wouldn't have worked. With all this aside I still don't think everything that happened was worth it in the end. In general I don't think anything is really worth killing a person. If anything killing someone makes you less appropriate for the title or job or whatever it is you're killing people for. And if its something similar to what happened to the Macbeths then its not worth it at all to put yourself through the emotional and physical toll that comes with your actions, especially if was only for a short period of time.

Lady Macbeth's Soliloquy

"Fill me, from the crown to the toe, top-full of direst cruelty!"

For most people, if they aren't mental or insane, it takes a lot for them to murder someone. They have to not only deal with the actual trouble they can get into if they are caught, but they also have to deal with the emotional distraught and constant worrying of their actions surfacing. This goes a long with what Lady Macbeth says in her soliloquy. She explains in her old-English way that someone needs to be completely full of evil and cruelty to complete or even consider completing such an act. She knows her husband will be unable to commit such a terrible crime because he doesn't have the ability to be so cruel. However, she believes if she is able to posses enough cruelty for they both of them she can carry out what needs to be done. This kind of relates back to the blog we did a couple weeks ago about greed. How people will do almost anything to get the gold and the gold in this case is the crown. Lady Macbeth is willing to possibly ruin her reputation if caught so her husband can have a chance at royalty, the crown and the riches.

Greed

Greed is probably the biggest problem in our world. Back to the oldest records of life and civilization we have, people have always wanted to be the best and have the most, especially money. In the Canterbury Tales story, The Pardoners Tale, it shows how much corruption greed can cause, and that was only on a small scale. Now just imagine how much corruption and how many problems this one thing can cause around the world. On a daily basis, people are stealing, or finding ways to get more money. Everyone wants to be richer and everyone wants to be for their own reasons. Some people want money for power, others to be able to have more material things to show their wealth and some just like money. This feeling, emotion, overwhelming sensation or whatever you want to use to describe it can make people do some pretty desperate things. Greed might just be the root of all evil because greed isn't always about money. It could be about other things like people getting even or wanting revenge. However, it is normally related to money which does cause most of the problems within out government and more commonly lives. The worst part of this though is that there's really no way to fix this problem. Its always going to be around because no one knows how to stop it. Everyone is always going to want more. Its how its always been and more than likely how it will always be.

Truth

Our lives are full of hidden secrets. In order to learn the truth about some of these secrets, or even the truth about out lives we have to experience events or have our close relatives and friends tell us about them. We grow up with a certain way of thinking depending on what we're exposed to at a young age. I don't remember which teacher it was, but one of my teachers always brought up the point that if you were trapped in a box with no contact to the outside world and you were told everyday that the sky was purple that when you went out into the actual world you would truly believe the sky was purple no matter what people said. That would work until enough people said it and then seeing it every day you opinion on it would change. This reflects the way Grendel feels after hearing the Shaper tell his stories the Hrothgar's men. Grendel has gone his entire life living on the outskirts of the real world, not knowing what is actually going on or why he was forced to live the way he does. After listening to the Shaper he finally understands the big picture. Then after talking to the dragon he develops an even new way of thinking and a repulsive attitude. I believe he responds this way to all of these new truths about his life because he is so overwhelmed with all of the new truths he is discovering about his own life. He just doesn't know what to believe or trust anymore.

Modern day Beowulf

I've been thinking of who most resembles Beowulf today and I cannot think of one real person or one real group of people who resemble him. However when I think of Beowulf I think of this courageous hero who goes out of his way to show his bravery and protect and serve people he barely or doesn't even know. This makes me think of super heroes. I think of them because they possess many of the qualities that Beowulf also possesses. They all have the bravery to put their life on the line to put and end to evil. Whether this evil is someone such as Grendel, a dragon, the Joker or Bane, there is always an evil that needs to be stopped or shut down. 126 Both Beowulf and super heroes put themselves in danger to save others. However the differences between the two is most of the super heroes are fighting for a deeper meaning than just showing that they are a hero or to prove that they are this brave warrior. Instead they fight to actually help people. They have a more deeper reasoning for their fighting. Super heroes also have fancy little costumes and specialized weapons to help them battle while Beowulf battles with his own hands with out the help of weapons. Even with the few differences they have, and even if super heroes aren't necessarily real, they are the closest representation of a modern day Beowulf.
