Greed
Greed is probably the biggest problem in our world. Back to the oldest records of life and civilization we have, people have always wanted to be the best and have the most, especially money. In the Canterbury Tales story, The Pardoners Tale, it shows how much corruption greed can cause, and that was only on a small scale. Now just imagine how much corruption and how many problems this one thing can cause around the world. On a daily basis, people are stealing, or finding ways to get more money. Everyone wants to be richer and everyone wants to be for their own reasons. Some people want money for power, others to be able to have more material things to show their wealth and some just like money. This feeling, emotion, overwhelming sensation or whatever you want to use to describe it can make people do some pretty desperate things. Greed might just be the root of all evil because greed isn't always about money. It could be about other things like people getting even or wanting revenge. However, it is normally related to money which does cause most of the problems within out government and more commonly lives. The worst part of this though is that there's really no way to fix this problem. Its always going to be around because no one knows how to stop it. Everyone is always going to want more. Its how its always been and more than likely how it will always be.

Truth
Our lives are full of hidden secrets. In order to learn the truth about some of these secrets, or even the truth about out lives we have to experience events or have our close relatives and friends tell us about them. We grow up with a certain way of thinking depending on what we're exposed to at a young age. I don't remember which teacher it was, but one of my teachers always brought up the point that if you were trapped in a box with no contact to the outside world and you were told everyday that the sky was purple that when you went out into the actual world you would truly believe the sky was purple no matter what people said. That would work until enough people said it and then seeing it every day you opinion on it would change. This reflects the way Grendel feels after hearing the Shaper tell his stories the Hrothgar's men. Grendel has gone his entire life living on the outskirts of the real world, not knowing what is actually going on or why he was forced to live the way he does. After listening to the Shaper he finally understands the big picture. Then after talking to the dragon he develops an even new way of thinking and a repulsive attitude. I believe he responds this way to all of these new truths about his life because he is so overwhelmed with all of the new truths he is discovering about his own life. He just doesn't know what to believe or trust anymore.

Modern day Beowulf
I've been thinking of who most resembles Beowulf today and I cannot think of one real person or one real group of people who resemble him. However when I think of Beowulf I think of this courageous hero who goes out of his way to show his bravery and protect and serve people he barely or doesn't even know. This makes me think of super heroes. I think of them because they possess many of the qualities that Beowulf also possesses. They all have the bravery to put their life on the line to put and end to evil. Whether this evil is someone such as Grendel, a dragon, the Joker or Bane, there is always an evil that needs to be stopped or shut down. 126 Both Beowulf and super heroes put themselves in danger to save others. However the differences between the two is most of the super heroes are fighting for a deeper meaning than just showing that they are a hero or to prove that they are this brave warrior. Instead they fight to actually help people. They have a more deeper reasoning for their fighting. Super heroes also have fancy little costumes and specialized weapons to help them battle while Beowulf battles with his own hands with out the help of weapons. Even with the few differences they have, and even if super heroes aren't necessarily real, they are the closest representation of a modern day Beowulf.

Me
Hi, my name is Lizzie or at least that's what I preferred to be called. My real and full name is Elizabeth Kathleen Cecilia Czubernat. I've never had a blog before so I'm not really sure what to put in here so I guess I'll just talk about some of the things about me. I play softball, both for the school and travel ball. I play almost every position but my favorite to play are first and short stop. I used to play volleyball, gymnastics, and kickboxing. I still do kickboxing every now and then when I feel like going into the gym. I live on the South-side of the city in a little tiny neighborhood called Mount Greenwood. I have a small family. I have a younger brother who is a sophomore and a younger sister who is in fifth grade. I have two dogs. One is a husky who is 8 months old and his name is Kujo. The other is a shepard-collie-lab mix and her name is Nala. I also have like 8 fish who all had names at some point but i don't remember them. My favorite food is definitely cheese fries. I could eat them everyday. Oh, and i also fit the typical white girl stereotype of being obsessed with Starbucks. I also love my iced coffee from Dunkin Donuts. Oh and I can't forget that I love my best friend Nate Cronin. I'm currently skyping with him and everyone should be jealous. (He told me to say that). But anyways I'm going to bed now so night everyone.
